Girls’ Fund Grants
SuperNOVA, I.T.S. for GIRLS
Halifax
2009-2012: $90,000 over three years
SuperNOVA at Dalhousie University’s mandate is to provide science, engineering and technology programs for youth across Nova Scotia. This is achieved by offering engaging clubs, workshops and summer camps for youth both at the university and in the community.
Funding from CWF supports I.T.S. for GIRLS, an all-girls science and technology club which connects girls with female mentors in science, engineering and technology-related fields through direct interaction and hands-on activities. The club exposes girls to a variety of career possibilities while breaking stereotypes about women in science. Skills developed include critical thinking, problem solving, team work, self-confidence and self-respect.
I.T.S. for GIRLS has been so successful it is now used as a model for girls programs.
